To qualify a plane must meet rigid standards and exact specifications, but this has led to the register being highly respected and recognized throughout the aviation industry internationally.
Once an aircraft is accepted into the registry, a registration mark prefixed with VP-C plus two other letters will be assigned. Highly qualified CAACI staff will then conduct thorough inspections of the aircraft at the home base or the designated maintenance facility for ease and convenience for their clients. This entire registration process normally takes about six weeks. Aircraft are inspected annually to ensure compliance with required safety standards. The CAACI dispatches its surveyors and inspectors based on client preference and works to meet the needs and time demands of the aircraft owners and operators.
In 2009, the Cayman Islands signed on to the Cape Town Convention, which helps facilitate the financing and acquisition of aircraft, as well as facilitating the use, leasing, and the protection of the owner interest in the aircraft. Though, as an overseas dependency of the UK, the Caymans could not independently sign on to the treaty, a law was passed at that time that replicated all the essential protections that are included within the agreement.
Further improvements to the jurisdiction came about in October 2010, when the CAACI significantly reduced the cost of registering an aircraft mortgage in the Cayman Islands. Fees are now capped at US$ 6,098, for mortgages of a sum exceeding US$ 24,390,244, down from a previous maximum of US$ 30,588
The CAACI also works in close partnership with a specialized group of legal and financial firms and Cayman Islands Government authorities to ensure that clients have the most comprehensive counsel on every avenue of law, custom law, tax and insurance.

The ir Navigation (Overseas Territory) Order is the aviation statutory instrument for the CAACI, which details the legislative provisions for all the UK Overseas Territories. Additionally, the Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements (OTARs) are provided to ensure operational compliance with the Order.
