China is continuously connecting to the outside world through a series of long-term investments. Known as the One Belt and One Road, the massive construction project aims to revive the transportation routes connecting China to the rest of the continent, Africa, Europe, and Middle East.
It is considered to be one of the most ambitious geo-economic initiatives in history. The initiative contains two international trade connections: the land-based Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) and ocean-going Maritime Silk Road (MSR).
Spans to around 70 countries through several land corridors and maritime routes
Covers around 65% of the world’s population which equals to about 40% of the world’s GDP
More than 1700 projects with a value of around $1 trillion falls under the initiative
BRI would be serviced by a network of roads, high-speed railways, fibre-optic lines, submarine optical cable projects and satellite information passageway
To date, Chinese companies have secured more than $340bn in construction contracts along the Belt and Road
The project’s completion is planned to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the People’s Republic of
